ICC Shield Events

There's no shortage of activities to take part in when living at College, our events are what make College life amazing.  Our Intercollegiate Shields are an integral part of College history giving residents the opportunity to win bragging rights about how good their College is over the residents of other Colleges.

There's an event for everyone, not just sports, and it's a great way to get involved and have some fun!

To participate in any ICC Shield event just talk to the members of your College Association.

ICC Academic Shield

The Intercollegiate Academic Shield is made up of multiple events that take place throughout the year, including Public Speaking, Debating, a Battle of the Brains tournament, and a Science and Engineering Challenge. Don’t think that academics or public speaking is your forte? That’s ok - you can still help your College win the Academic Shield by achieving good academic results throughout the year and by supporting your fellow residents at each of the events.

This year is the first year that the ICC Academic Shield is up for grabs, so to ensure that your College is the first to be engraved on the trophy, ensure that you try your hardest in your classes, volunteer for some of the events, and support your fellow residents!

ICC Arts Shield

Th ICC Arts Shield allows you to show off your skills in the areas of art, drama and music. If arts and performing isn't your forte, don’t worry because you can still get involved by coming along and cheering loudly for your College and getting involved in the mass participation performance, which will take place towards the end of the year!

ICC Charity Shield

The ICC Charity Shield is awarded to the College who raises the most money for charity!  All of the colleges organise and run numerous charity events during the year, helping those less fortunate in our community, throughout Australia and also overseas!  In 2012, the Colleges did such a fantastic job and raised over $18,000 for various charities.

2012 Winners:  Evatt House

ICC Bloody Shield

Did you know 1 in 3 people will need blood in their lifetime but only 1 in 30 donate? These percentages are not great, and in an attempt to change this, the Colleges take part in an annual ICC Bloody Shield!

ICC Sports Shield

Do you love sports? If so, then you will be interested in the ICC Sports Shield! This competition has a long and proud history at the University of Newcastle. The ICC Sports Shield involves each of the Colleges competing against each other in a variety of different sports.  If you're not the greatest sportsperson, don't worry, some events have a 'mass participation' component, which means that just by turning up to support and cheering loudly for your College will help them to win!

2012 Winners:  Evatt House

ICC Shield Dinner
The ICC Shield Dinner is when all Colleges get together and the winners of the Annual ICC Shields are announced.  It's a night of glamour and an opportunity for College residents to get together one last time before the end of year.  Most importantly this is when Colleges can claim bragging rights over other Colleges!
