Cultural Awakenings
At any given time there are students from more than 80 countries at Newcastle Uni.
The Cultural Awakenings Festival has been running since 1994 and is one of the highlights of the university’s events calendar. The week is a chance for the university community to celebrate the diversity of its students in a more interesting way than those laminated statics in the AIC.
The Festival lasts a full week in September, with Latin dance parties, cultural seminars, the famous Parade of Nations around the university (in which students dress in the traditional regalia of their home nation), and international dance-offs.
Cultural Awakenings provides the opportunity for students to express themselves and meet new people.
Food Fair Friday marks the culmination of the week long festivities held during the universities annual celebration of diversity. The Bar on the Hill is temporarily transformed into an international emporium of deliciousness with dozens of stalls representing a vast array of nations.
Cultural Awakenings is a great way to learn something new about the world and your fellow classmates. It's always an entertaining week, so make sure you have a look!
