Alchemy, an ancient form of early proto-science, sought to transform base materials and liquids into gold, develop a universal solvent and find an elixir of life. Similarly, artists explore and experiment with combinations of substances, surfaces and processes in the studio environment with the intention of articulating order for their world chaos.
Abstract marks lead to realism, focused obsessive realism dissolves into spontaneous surrealism, layers are built up and stripped back, traditional procedural methodology is followed to invoke the non-representational.
